Here’s another way to make instant friends in Thailand. It’s the local nursery rhyme about the chang, i.e. the elephant. The first line: “Chang, chang, chang, chang, chang,” precedes a child-like description of an elephant in the rest of the song. Everyone knows this and learns it as a child. We tried it out on our guide the next day and it worked. He grinned broadly just at our mention of the song and started singing it right away.
