We had long wanted to visit the remote and icy island of Greenland, especially after touring the not so remote green island of Iceland (click here for that page). We had both visited Denmark decades before so were pleased to update our delight in its capital with a stay-over there as well.
Our itinerary followed the western coast of Greenland, from Narsarsuaq to Ilullisisat, the habitable portion of the massive island. Few roads are available so most transport was by boat, including the local ferry with a cabin for four nights. Here’s our route:
Copenhagen
Narsarsuaq – Qassiarsuk – Narsarsuaq
Narsarsuaq – Itilleq – Igaliku
Boat to Narsaq
Narsaq – Ilulissat by coastal ferry (with accommodations)
Narsaq to Arsuk
Paamiut & Qeqertarsuatsiaat
Nuuk
Maniitsoq/Sisimiut
Ilulissat, around Disko Bay and Icefjord Kangia.
