Here is the main page covering our 15-day visit to Armenia, plus a slide show of pictures at the end.
After four years in Lisbon, partly waiting out the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, and various extended visits to Africa, we were ready to pick up and move for a while to a new region, the Caucasus, visiting here and neighboring Azerbaijan and Georgia, which was our “base camp” for our six months in the region.
For journal postings from Armenia, CLICK HERE. Here we planned to see much of this small country of about 3 million people, but learned that we could eagerly have spent much more time. Our visits included:
Lesser Caucasian mountains in the north
Haghpat and Sanahin, UNESCO World Heritage monasteries
Yerevan, the capital, including several world-class museums
Etchmiadzin, the center of the Armenian church
Geghard Monastery, Zvarnots temple, and Garni temple near Yerevan
Sevan Lake, including nature reserves
A myriad of other churches and monasteries including Akhtali, Odzun, Saghmosavan & Hovhannavank
